Yesterday, on the 4th of november, i was in town. I was there for church in which afterwards i and my mum lingered for awhile. I was shocked to see that christmas decorations were already being put up. It is BARELY the start of november, yet, shopping centers are already hauling up cartons and cartons of baubles and wreaths and trees and whatnot.
Last week, i went down to geylang for dinner with family, in the car, i passed by rows and rows of shops, whose shopowners had eagerly put up banners reading in bold "X'MAS DECORATIONS 50% OFF STOREWIDE" with an almost palpable haze of feverish anticipation hanging over them like BO.
I was absolutely disgusted with what i saw, what happened to the good olde times? Has no one ever heard of the merry season? What ever happened to times where christmas was when families decorated their modest trees with just candles, real trees mind you, home made presents made with love stacked neatly under the tree. Where they had feasts of roasted meat and christmas puddings where they would bite into coins of the were lucky enough to get them in their slice. Where children would spend hours and hours of fun custom making their own cookies to put near the tree for santa to eat. Where families would huddle together in front of the fireplace drinking hot cocoa and watching the embers die down in total peace and serenity? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THESE?
Now, chirstmas trees are plastic, 7 feet tall and decorated with oversized neon baubles, strings and strings of electric lights which gives off so much bloody heat that it threatens to melt the whole tree into a sodden heap. Huge store bought presents piled and stretching beyond the tree, the pile would even be bigger than the tree itself. To think families would go to have SUSHI for christmas dinners?! Where children couldn't be bothered with anything else but their stupid presents. Where parents would spend the whole day gabbing on the phone with their god-damned clients and punching furiously on their laptops to reply endless amounts of emails!
The world today is getting too sadistic... before long they would start to sell valentine chocolates in october... what a mine numbing thought.
P.S: I always pay my debts, soon it'll be down to you all and i can't wait...
